Shinrin-yoku!
June 24th to June 28th
Last year, Kingswood developed a section of our outdoor forest into a “Shinrin-yoku” centre (Japanese term for “Forest Bathing”) and several outdoor classroom settings. Our students will be experiencing the benefits of this outdoor therapy as they study flora during this nature week.
Respect for our planet through concepts of sustainability, resource conservation, composting and water capture are just a few of the other themes the students will explore.
We will also be visiting a local nursery and bringing back a tree to plant at Kingswood.
A trip through the Turtle Creek Reservoir will provide a hands-on view of how we must work with nature to preserve our planet.
“Indoors, we tend to use only two senses, our eyes and our ears. Outside is where we can smell the flowers, taste the fresh air, look at the changing colours of the trees, hear the birds singing and feel the breeze on our skin. And when we open up our senses, we begin to connect to the natural world.” ~Dr. Qing Li
